9-11-07

9-11 has a poignant meaning for us, as it’s the day after our daughter Sarah’s birthday. Whenever I think of 9-11, I always remember how “normal” life was during her party on the evening of the 10th. While we were having cake and ice cream, opening presents, and joyously celebrating, there was a group of men plotting the death of thousands of innocents. At that point we were among the innocents, and the next day we became one of the millions of casualties. No, we didn’t face a physical death; it was our innocence that died. We naively felt that our country was one of the few “safe” countries where terrorism from outside forces wouldn’t occur. As I said, we were naive.

There are many events throughout history that will always stand out… Pearl Harbor, D-Day, VE & VJ day, the assassination of JFK, Neil Armstrong walking on the moon, and many others. Many of these days started of “normally”, as 9-11 did. What is vital for us all to ponder is how any day can go from “normal” to extraordinary in the blink of an eye. Our lives are but a vapor, vanishing in just an instant. We need to be eternally minded, and days such as these should point us in that direction. We should focus on not only the brevity of our own lives, but the brevity of those who are all around us. Every person has an eternal destination, and it’s only one of two places.

If we are truly saved, we should have a very real concern for those around us who are perishing. If we have that concern, what action are we implementing? Do we just hope that our lives will be a light to others, that they would see the glow within our lives, and approach us asking how to obtain that glow? Has anyone ever done that to you? I’ve never had anyone do that in the 24 years I have been saved. If I can’t expect them to approach me, then what’s to be done? All who are saved have the responsibility to share their faith, and to be prepared to do so, both in season and out of season. If you are unsure how to share your faith Biblically, visit Way of the Master and you will learn all that you need to know. We have been using this method for the last 4 1/2 years and find it to be the most Biblically grounded. We have a family evangelism ministry, and if you would like to see more about it you can visit Master’s Key Ministries.
